1)BitTorrent: a few friends use this and say that when it comes to downloading movies, videos, and games this program is best.

2)Frostwire: safe but not very popular....states to be safe from anti-piracy watches. Easy to use but is it best?

3)Bearflix: fast and safe...has been the most talked about of all the shareware programs on campus. Is this the winner?

4)Imesh: suppose to be "legal" and safe...with millions of people connected.

I want individuals who truly do this on a daily basis and take these things seriously.

The virus I received a couple of weeks ago was from a download using Limewire. I will like to avoid the same mistake again. Please help in choosing the best available program thus far.

Priorities:
1)safe (virus and out of harms way from the anti-piracy people)
2)speed/high number of connections (fast downloads)

I personally like the Bearshare products. If youre looking for the more popular musical choices you will like it. Basically the Limewire and Bearshare programs work off the Gnutella network so you may get some of the same hits (and files) off of a search.

Based off your questions, it seems like youre more likely to dl a movie versus a song (??). If thats the case you may want to check out some newsgroups or the Torrents.

I actually download both movies and music pretty equally. I'm looking for a place that has a good amount of movie hits plus for it to be safe. They're starting to clamp things down a bit more so I don't deal with no B.S.

When it comes to programs I know what the average person knows so I would like for someone to recommend a few programs and explain in some detail the pro's and con's....

I'm in the same boat. I started with limewire and utorrent for music and movies and now I'm curious about the others.

I did get Bit Torrents for Dummies and am plowing through that right now. It's informative but the author also spends time on setting up a webpage, the legalities of torrents, the mechanics of using bit torrent and creating bit torrent content (AV files) so it isn't entirely germane to what I want.

Other programs mentioned in the book are:
Azureus
BitTornado
ABC
BitsonWheels (Mac)
bitcomet is another I've heard about.

Try out BitLord, I use it almost exclusively now. As long as you can find the torrents of the stuff on google with decent amount of seeds, save it and place it in Bitlord. The speed of downloads are incredible. The average downloading speed with my univeristy library wireless internet is between 130-160 kB/s.

I've known about torrent for a while, but I have been reluctant to even mess with it...from this thread:

-I download the "platform" from azureus....and this I would go to a site like bitlord and download music or vids right?
